Fayetteville Police arrest man for allegedly breaking into the Ben Franklin

Fayetteville Police have made an arrest in an investigation into a break-in at two area businesses. The arrest was made thanks to a serendipitous encounter with the suspect.

The Ben Franklin and New River Antique Mall in Fayetteville were broken into on Tuesday, Feb. 4.  and while police were investigating, a man who fit the description of the suspect walked by.  It turns out that man, Joshua Wheeler, was picked up for a probation violation while the investigation into the break-in was going on.  Detectives were able to trace the crime back to Wheeler, who was in the Southern Regional Jail.

On Wednesday, Police issued an arrest warrant for Wheeler for the break-in.  He is charges with two counts of Breaking and Entering and two counts of Grand Larceny.  He was arraigned and bond was set at $50,0000.   

The investigation was handled by Fayetteville Police with the help of the Fayette County Sheriff's Office. According to Fayetteville Police Chief Matt Jefferies, more charges could also be filed.
