UPDATE: Bomb squad called to Mercer County parking lot

Explosive Response Team members say they detonated the plastic pipe object and found no explosives.

Friday afternoon, crews were called to the scene of the Bluewell Family Dollar.

A suspicious pipe was found, and police thought it could have explosives inside.

The response team out of Charleston arrived at 6 p.m. and cleared the scene about an hour later.

Route 52 is reopened and the parking lot of the store is clear.


Route 52 in Mercer County is closed after a bomb squad is called to an area dollar store.

State Police are Fire Department officials ordered a bomb squad to the Family Dollar parking lot Saturday afternoon.

Around 3 p.m. in Bluewell police were called to the scene to look at a suspicious object.

The bomb squad arrived just before 6 p.m. to secure the object that fire-fighters describe as a pipe with a lid on it.

No word on what the status of the alleged bomb at this time.
