HUNTINGTON, WV -

Dr. Gerard Oakley, a longtime cancer specialist and chief of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, has been selected as medical director of the Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center at Cabell Huntington Hospital.

Oakley is one of Edwards' founding physicians and has been working with patients there since the center opened its doors in 2006. In his new role, he oversees clinical operations that include programs for surgical oncology, pediatric oncology, medical oncology and hematology and radiation oncology for the diagnosis and treatment of cancers of all types for patients of all ages.

He also will continue to see patients in his clinic and perform surgical procedures.

He is chairman of the oncology committee at Cabell Huntington, where he also is president of the hospital's medical staff.

Oakley earned his medical degree at the University of Michigan, and he completed his fellowship training in gynecologic oncology at the University of Minnesota.
