Fire in Greenbrier County causes detour along Route 219

A home in Greenbrier County went up in flames on Tuesday, Feb. 25.  It happened along Route 219 near the Clifton Presbyterian Church in Maxwelton.

Officials said that there were three people in the home when the fire began.  Firefighters said the people inside smelled smoke.  When they went to investigate they found the front bedroom was on fire.  

Fairlea, Lewisburg and Frankford Fire Departments responded to the fire.  The were able to contain the blaze to the front of the house and keep the house from being a total loss. Greenbrier Valley ambulance also responded to the call, but no one was hurt in the fire.

Route 219 was closed due to the fire.  Traffic was routed around the airport while firefighters worked to put out the fire.
