A deadly accident happened on Route 52 in the western part of Wyoming County.  It happened at around 11:50 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27.

Investigators with the Wyoming County Sheriff's Department said that two trucks collided in the Ike's Forks area.  According to a witness, a Chevy Colorado that was headed southbound on Route 52 crossed the yellow line.  The driver of a Dodge Ram headed in the opposite direction tried to avoid the oncoming truck, when the driver of the Chevrolet corrected and the two trucks hit head on.

Two people were in the Chevy Colorado.  Deputies said neither one of them was wearing a seatbelt.  The driver, who was identified as 31-year-old Tammy Hatfield of McDowell County was taken to Welch Emergency.  She died on the way to the hospital.  Joshua Payne, who was riding with Hatfield, was flown to Charleston Area Medical Center.  As of 8:45 a.m. on Friday morning, Payne is in critical condition, The driver of the Dodge, Robert Roberts of Hanover was taken to Logan General Hospital.

Hanover Fire Department, STAT Ambulance and Wyoming County Sheriff's Deputies all responded to the scene.  The accident was cleared up at 1:25 p.m. on Thursday.
