While it's important to recruit and maintain qualityteachers, you just have to wonder about the timing of a pay raise bill thatjust came out of the state Senate.
At every turn this year, we've heard about budget cuts, possible tax increases and how we're going to make up a multi-million dollarshortfall.
Yet, when one of the biggest, most powerful lobbying groupsin the state comes calling, our elected leaders happily open the checkbook.
Next year when there is no election, they're going to openthe tax book, and we're going to pay.
We can either do what's right, or we can cater to thespecial interests.
We can't do both.
