What do you need to know to keep your vehicle safe and well-maintained in the midst of all this ice?

An expert at Advance Auto Parts in Princeton gave 59News some tips and advice for windshields and wipers. He advised against pouring hot water on your windshields because that can cause an extra sheet of ice.

Bill Cooley gave us suggestions for your wiper blades.

"If it's already frozen to the car you need to lift them up, straight up. If you just cut them on then it's going to rip the blade off. If you lift it straight up you'll save your blade and you won't have to worry about it ripping on you," Cooley said.

He also recommended using silicone spray to keep your door gaskets lubricated and suggested using the de-frost on your vehicle for at least 15 to 20 minutes before driving.
