CHARLES TOWN, WV -

Southern California native Lindsay Sullivan is the new assistant curator at the Jefferson County Museum, home to a collection that includes a 1799 letter penned by George Washington and the wagon that took abolitionist John Brown to his execution.

Sullivan graduated from San Francisco State University in 2010 with a master's degree in museum studies. Her bachelor's degree, from University of California Santa Cruz, is in art history and psychology.

Sullivan comes to the Charles Town museum from the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum, where she managed a collection that including historic commercial diving equipment, maps and charts, shipwreck items and military memorabilia. She also handled grant requests, worked with youth education programs and coordinated a monthly lecture series.

Before that, she completed internships and other work at the Autry National Center in Los Angeles, the University of California Berkeley's Hearst Museum of Anthropology and the Museum of Man in San Diego.

The museum, situated in the lower level of the Charles Town Library at 200 E. Washington St., was established in 1965.
