The McDowell County Sheriff's Office has made an arrest in the case of equipment being stolen from coal mines.

Deputies arrested Joseph Eric Sacra, 32, of Northfork.  He is accused of stealing 34 batteries from coal mines that are located around Welch, WV.  Deputies said the batteries are worth $300 each.  They were taken from equipment that is located on mine property.  The total value of the stolen material was around $10,200.

Investigators tracked the batteries to salvage yards in McDowell County and were able to trace them back to Joseph Sacra. Sacra is charged with Grand Larceny.  He is being held at the McDowell County Holding Unit on a $20,000 bond.  He will be transferred to the Southwestern Regional Jail.
