Deputies with the McDowell County Sheriff's Office have made an arrest in a case of animal abuse that happened in Iaeger.

Deputy Anthony Epperson, the Humane Officer with the McDowell County Sheriff's Office, was called to a home in Iaeger on Tuesday, March 11.  When he arrived he found a female dog and two of her puppies that appeared to have been dead for several days.  The dogs appeared to have starved to death.  Deputy Epperson said that there appeared to me no water or food bowls within reach of the female dog who was also tangled up in a short leash.

McDowell County Sheriff's Deputies took photos of the dogs.  Attached is just one of the pictures. Two others are so disturbing that they cannot be shown.

Joshua Brett Maxwell, 29, of Iaeger was arrested on three counts of Cruelty to Animals.  Deputies said that the charges are felonies.  Maxwell is already being held in the Southwestern Regional Jail on unrelated charges.
