BECKLEY -

Police are investigating a possible armed robbery at the Kroger on Harper Road in Beckley Thursday night.

Beckley Police said a man walked into the store, went up to the customer service desk and handed the cashier a note saying he had a gun.  Officers on scene confirm the man never showed a gun to the cashier, but he did get away with an undisclosed amount of money. According to West Virginia Code, even the implication of having a weapon is grounds for an armed robbery charge.

Officers are not sure if the man ran off or made is escape in a vehicle. They are searching for a light skinned black man wearing a plaid shirt and a black zip up.

Investigators were viewing surveillance video of the incident shortly after responding to the scene.  Anyone with information is asked to call Beckley Police at 304-256-1708 or CrimeStoppers at 304-255-STOP
