BLUEWELL -

Mercer County Deputies confirm one person is dead and another is critically injured in an accident along Lorton Lick Road in the Bluewell Area on Monday night.

Crews on scene said witnesses told them the car was speeding and veered off the road.  It smashed into a power pole and then rolled into a house.  The accident happened at 11:23 p.m. on Monday, March 17.

Kevin Brooks, 25, of Jenkinjones was driving the 2013 Hyundai Elantra.  He was declared dead when crews got to the scene.  The passenger, Steven Neace, 22, of Lebanon, TN was taken Bluefield Regional Medical Center. He was later transferred to CAMC General where he is listed as under evaluation in the ICU.

No one inside the home was hurt.  Property on the front of the house was damaged along with a car that was parked in the driveway.

Deputies said that speed and cell phone usage were factors in the accident. Bluefield Rescue Squad, Bluewell Fire Department and Green Valley Fire Department responded to the scene.
