A West Virginia State Trooper who currently works in McDowell County is being honored a Medal of Valor.

Senior Trooper James Coburn is being recognized for his brave acts displayed back in July of 2012.

Trooper Coburn was part of a pursuit involving a man who stole a police car in Bluefield and took off. The suspect also took an officers gun and threatened to shoot. Trooper Coburn shot the suspect and saved the lives of several officers that day.

Coburn and several other state troopers were recognized Wednesday in a private ceremony at the State Police headquarters in Charleston.
