Several Delta Tau Delta brothers from West Virginia University spent their spring break spreading the word about Angel Bus, the non-emergency ground transportation offered by Mercy Medical Airlift, a charitable medical transportation service started in 1972.

Patrick Moss, chairman of the Delta Tau Delta Public Service Committee at WVU, said other members of the fraternity will visit health care clinics and hospitals throughout Morgantown and the surrounding area to make them aware of the Angel Bus program.

Angel Bus utilizes gas cards, volunteer drivers and other commercial transportation services such as Amtrak and Greyhound for scheduled medical appointments and other transportation needs for low-income patients who use free and community health clinics in their states or who live in remote locations and cannot access medical treatment. The typical trip is between 70 and 250 miles one-way.

Jim Smith, MMA chief of staff and Angel Bus program director, said the bus program started in Virginia.

"We chose West Virginia as the next state to roll out Angel Bus," Smith said. "We're truly grateful for Delta Tau Delta's partnership with us.

"If not for their deep concern for those less fortunate, we would not be able to reach patients who need services provided by our ground transportation program."
