FAYETTE COUNTY -

UPDATE:

Sheriff's Deputies in Fayette County have released more information about a suspicious fire that happened in Oak Hill on Sunday, March 23.

The fire broke out at a home at 530 Gatewood Road at around 2 a.m.  Cheryl Ward, 28, of Oak Hill and Jamie Castillo, 39, who is from Ohio, but had been living in Oak Hill, were found just inside the front door.  The women were flown to the burn unit at Cabell Huntington Hospital.  Ward was pronounced dead on Monday, March 24.  Her body was taken to the Medical Examiner's office.  Deputies said that an autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday, March 25.  Castillo is still in critical condition at Cabell Huntington.

Investigators have discovered that the fire started in the living room, where the two women were found.  The cause of the fire has not been determined yet.

There are two "persons of interest" in the investigation.  Sheriff Steve Kessler said that a pair of men were walking in the area of East Main Street near the intersection with Gatewood Road.  The men were also seen in the Summerlee Road area between the Country Corner and the Owl's Club.  The men were spotted in those areas between the hours of 11 p.m. on Saturday and 2:30 a.m. on Sunday.

They are both white males.  The first is in his mid-fifties with short salt-and-pepper hair and a closely trimmed salt-and-pepper beard and mustache.  The other man is in his mid-twenties, short and slender.  Anyone who may have seen the men walking together in the places and time in question is asked to call the Fayette County Sheriff's Office at 304-574-4216 or CrimeStoppers at 304-255-7867.

The incident is still under investigation by the Fayette County Sheriff's Office Detective Bureau.  The fire is being investigated by the Sheriff's Office Fire and Arson Unit and the Office of the West Virginia State Fire Marshall.
