On March 29, Wheeling Jesuit University's international students will host the university's annual Culture Fest as part of the first WJU Community Day celebration.

Culture Fest will take place this year in the Benedum Room, located in Swint Hall. The festival, which runs from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., is an opportunity to honor the different cultures on campus and allows students to share their heritage and customs with peers, faculty and the local community.

Students from 20 of the 25 countries who are studying at WJU will be preparing ethnic foods for the day, as well as performing music and dance numbers and providing a fashion show. Everyone in the Wheeling community is invited to attend.

"This is something that our students get excited for every year. This is also the first year we will have new scenery. We're moving the event to the Benedum Room. In years past, we held the event in the McDonough Center. We hope this will give the event a more intimate feel," said Sunnie McCabe, WJU international student coordinator. "Culture Fest is a way for the students to show their heritage off to the Ohio Valley."

Students will work Friday evening and Saturday morning to decorate the Benedum Room with flags from all over the world, while filling the tables with food and mementos from their home nations.

Countries that will be represented this year are Nigeria, China, South Korea, Rwanda, Taiwan, Ukraine, Saudi Arabia, Congo, Philippines, Venezuela, Argentina, Belgium, Senegal, Greece, Basque Country of Spain, Trinidad, France, Cameroon, Brazil, Italy, Germany and the Central America region. Faculty and staff will also have tables for more traditional foods.
