A Charleston woman has admitted to possessing firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin said Chandra Ross, 30, had been named in a three-count indictment charging her with possession with intent to distribute heroin in addition to the two gun violations. She'd agreed to plead guilty to the drug charge and cooperate with authorities in exchange for the gun charges being dropped.

Ross, however, failed to fulfill her pledge to cooperate with authorities, Goodwin said. The court ruled that prosecutors were no longer bound by the terms of her plea agreement, so the weapons violations were restored.

As a result, Ross now faces anywhere from five years in prison, the mandatory minimum, to life in prison, for possessing the firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. Her guilty plea on that charge mandates that the sentence be served after the drug charge and the other gun charge.

Sentencing is set for June 26.
