Community honors Westside's girls basketball team with parade

Posted: Updated:

In Wyoming County flashing lights and sirens set the stage for the community of Clear Fork to celebrate the Lady Renegades who won the Class AA State championship in March.

"To have a community get together and have a big parade for a good team, a championship team," said Jim Brown a Westside fan.

Renegade supporters young and old lined the streets of Oceana to pay a tribute to the state champions.

"The girls did a great job and I'm excited to cheer them on for a parade that they deserve," said Nathaniel Evans.

Brianna Bailey added, "it's a big accomplishment especially in a small community like this."

This group of girls has won two of the past three state championships, both under head coach Jamie Lusk. Coach Lusk's mother Donna couldn't be more excited about the teams accomplishments and appreciates the dedication of the town.

"It's always been like that really, this community does back their team when they go to tournaments, they always back their team," she said.

And the team's biggest, or smallest fan is Coach Lusk's son Bronson. He was with his grandparents awaiting the parade.

With fans cheering them on as they did all year long, the team was carried through the town, capping off a phenomenal season.
