On April 10, Upper Ohio Valley residents and businesses will gather together at Wheeling Jesuit University's McDonough Center, along with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Western PA & West Virginia, to participate in a walk to help fight blood cancer.

Each year, teams of families, friends, co-workers and local and national corporations come together to raise funds for LLS's Light The Night Walk, which go toward advancing lifesaving cancer research and treatment, providing patient support services and advancing patient treatments.

Before the walk, a remembrance ceremony will be held in the center of the McDonough Center Track, where walkers will gather together and pay tribute to those who have passed. Wheeling's Amedisys Hospice Care and LLS's Patient Services Manager Francine Morrison will speak during the ceremony.

"The ceremony is a time for the community to join together and remember their loved ones who lost their battles with blood cancer," Morrison said.

After the ceremony, an expected 700 participants will walk in honor of friends, family members and loved ones, carrying illuminated lanterns- white for survivors, red for supporters and gold in memory of loved ones lost to cancer.

"It is an evening for not only remembrance, but also celebration," Morrison said, "It is an evening filled with positivity and hope. The community bans together and really makes a significant impact."

Last year's walk raised over $50,000 and this year LLS hopes to raise over $60,000.
