The driver of an SUV is under arrest after a pursuit with Beckley Police on Tuesday afternoon. That driver has been identified as Jerry Gunter Junior.

Corporeal Deems tells 59News that he tried to stop the vehicle on Robert C. Byrd Drive in Beckley for defective brake light. Gunter refused to open the door or window of his car and was making efforts to move the vehicle.

Corporeal Deems busted in the driver side window and reached in to unlock the car. At this point Gunter drove backwards, smashing into a police cruiser with Deems' hand still inside the window. Deems was able to get free.

Gunter took off and hit another car on Piney Avenue, injuring two people.

Police were able to stop the SUV in the parking lot of Ollie's Bargain Outlet at the top of New River Drive. Gunter was arrested and taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

He is facing multiple charges tonight including 2nd offense DUI, fleeing while driving under the influence, fleeing causing injury, fleeing causing property damage, malicious wounding and obstructing.
