Beautiful, brand-new homes, that's what 9 well-deserving families will get in the Bluefield area soon.

"A helping hand up, not a hand out" is how the Executive Director of Community Action of South Eastern West Virginia (CASE) explained the 9 new homes.

Most low-income families or individuals can be eligible to move into the beautiful homes, nestled in the heart of Bluefield. The Executive Director told 59News why they want to provide well-deserving Mercer County residents with safe and affordable housing.

"If you don't have a safe, decent roof over your head at night, how can you work, how can you find training or a job? Everything we do is try to get people on their feet and keep them there," said Oreatta Hubbard.

If you'd like to move in, be sure to apply now. Hubbard told us who can be eligible to rent the homes.

"You just have to be 60 percent or below the area median income," she said.

The interior of all the homes were constructed by NPW Development Corporation. All that's left is the exterior and landscaping.

The owner of Matney Excavation told us they should be done sometime in May with all the houses. He explained what they'll be doing in the next few days.

"I am putting the water drainage and the sewer in. We have to dig down and put everything on grade and gravel. The city will come in and inspect it then we cover it back up," said Roger Matney.

These are the final touches before families can take that first step into their new house which will soon become their new home.

"The driveways, there's a retaining wall that has to be done. Landscaping, and that's about it," Matney said.

Or call (304) 327-3506.

The projected completion date for all construction is May 1st. Move-in day is tentatively scheduled for one month later.
