This weekend a doctor from Beckley will be headed to a Jacksonville, FL to talk about sports medicine.  Dr. Jim Kyle is an emergency physician.  He will be at the 4th Annual First Coast Sports Injury Symposium.  On Saturday April 12, Kyle will deliver a presentation called "Sports Trauma: In the Emergency Room."

Kyle will be focusing on the conditions he has seen during his 30-year career in sports and emergency medicine. He will be addressing a crowd of physicians, athletic trainers and other medical professionals. The symposium is being held at Everbank Field, which is the home stadium for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

"This is an excellent opportunity to continue our message of safe sports play," Kyle said. "By working directly with the medical professionals who keep a close eye on our athletes, we are able to train these individuals to recognize the signs and symptoms of sports trauma and get them the help they need as quickly as possible producing better outcomes. It's good medicine."

Kyle also has also been invited to present the Friday Night Medical Time Out, which organizes EMS and athletic trainers through a pre-game meeting on game night. The concept of the Medical Time Out was developed by Dr. Kyle and was piloted in southern West Virginia during the 2013-2014 football season.
