Letitia Tierney, state health office and commission for the Bureau for Public Health, received the West Virginia Poison Center Distinguished Service Award April 8.

Tierney was presented with the award, which is given to individuals who demonstrate exceptional and sustained service to the WVPC.

"I admire her diligence and continued efforts to protect the health of the community," said Elizabeth Scharman, director of the WVPC. "She is a true professional and is committed to doing what is best for those she serves."

Scharman said Tierney is an active partner, consultant and advocate for the WVPC, who diligently and consistently works with the WVPC to utilize and enhance joint collaborative efforts between the center and public health agencies for the benefit of the community she serves.

"I am honored and humbled by the award," Tierney said. "West Virginia is fortunate to have Dr. Scharman and her team on call 24/7 to ensure the public has immediate access to potentially lifesaving health information."

Tierney is the third recipient of the West Virginia Poison Center's Distinguished Service Award.
