MERCER COUNTY, WV -
The Mercer County Board of Education held a meeting on Tuesday regarding the 2014 and 2015 school year levy rate.

The levy is the funding system for all schools in West Virginia. The rates proposed are for the upcoming fiscal year starting July 1, 2014.

The meeting was to officially adopt the levy rates for property taxation.  Mercer County Schools Superintendent, Deborah Askers explained the levy.

"Each year we have a process that's set by the legislator on the levy rate that's established for each of the counties," she said.

The board had an option of approving or opposing the rate and everyone approved.  The second thing discussed was the excess levy that Mercer County has the voters vote on every 5 years.
