A new fundraising event in the Upper Ohio Valley to raise funds for Youth Services System is in the works for June 21 in downtown Wheeling.

Carpet Showcase Flooring Center is at the helm of Challenge Wheeling, which the business describes as "part race, scavenger hunt and urban exploration."

The event will navigate teams through Wheeling to solve clues and complete challenges while learning local history and raising money for Youth Services System.

"I ran a similar race in Pittsburgh last summer and wanted to bring this type of race to Wheeling," said Christie Contraguerro, vice president of sales and marketing for Carpet Showcase Flooring Center. "This is a fun, interactive race that is conducive to all skill levels and training is not required.

This is the first year for Challenge Wheeling and we hope to make this a reoccurring event."

The race will be run in teams of two or more, and each team will be free to choose its own route from clue to clue on foot or by public transportation. The fee to participate is $20 for each racer, and several prizes will be awarded. All proceeds will go to Youth Services System, which provides needed treatment in educating, engaging and mentoring area youth.

Visit challengewheeling.com for details about the event and youthservicesystem.org for details about Youth Services System.
