Thanked an emergency dispatcher? It's their day

Posted: Updated:

Thursday is national Dispatcher Day. We are also in National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.

It's a time to celebrate and thank those who dedicate their lives to serving the public and to set aside a week in awareness of dispatchers' hard work and dedication.

"We try to take care of them every day, we've tried to do something extra for them this type of year to recognize them because they truly are un-appreciated heroes with everything that happens," said Mercer County Communications Center 911 director Robert Hoge.

The week-long event started in 1981 by Patricia Anderson of the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office in California.
