Working hand in hand with the Wheeling Recreation Department, Wheeling Jesuit University staff and students will work to care for the city-owned Pleasanton baseball field near the back entrance to the campus and the playground/park on Edgington Lane.

As part of the commitment, the university will contribute manpower to clean up the areas each spring and fall. On April 23, members of the university community cleaned the two parks for two hours by picking up trash, pulling weeds and assisting with other needs determined by the recreation department.

“We are pleased to partner with Wheeling Recreation and adopt these two parks,” said WJU President James Fleming. “Helping to clean and care for the parks twice a year is a nice way for members of our community to give back to the larger Wheeling community."

"The university is taking on this project because we care about the neighborhood, and want to better serve our community – one we share with the residents,” Fleming added. “The partnership between Wheeling Jesuit and the surrounding community has always been important to the faculty, staff and students. By adopting these two playgrounds we hope to generate a sense of student ownership and show we take pride in being a good neighbor to the city’s youth.”
