LATEST: Power outage that closed two Fayette County schools caused by high winds

BECKLEY - The Fayette County Board of Education announced the closure of two schools on Tuesday, April 29 due to a power outage in the area.  Divide Elementary School closed at 8:15 a.m. while Midland Trail High School dismissed students at 8:30 a.m.

In addition to the schools, Appalachian Power reported that more than 750 customers were in the dark around Fayette County on Tuesday morning. Another 387 were in the dark in neighboring Kanawha County.  According to Fayette County School Superintendent Keith Butcher, the outage was caused by high winds which blew at tree onto power lines.
