VT football coach Frank Beamer visits Bluefield

Posted: Updated:
Many people gathered at the Fincastle Country Club in Bluefield Wednesday for the annual Orange and Maroon caravan.
Head football coach Frank Beamer was the guest speaker of the event, that was sponsored by the Bluefield and Tazewell Hokie Clubs.
"It's a real honor for everybody here, we have a lot of alumni here, we have a lot of former players from Tech who live around here.  Some of whom played with Coach Beamer himself," said Bluefield Hokie Club president Lisa Clark.
Beamer hasn't been to this venue in five years and was thrilled to be back.
"It's good to be back," he said.  "I always enjoy this place, beautiful golf course beautiful part of the country, good folks, good people, so one of my favorite stops."
Hokie fans were ready to talk football and excited to hear about the upcoming season.
VT fan Brad Lambert said, "I think we've got a good shot in the ACC this year and really looking forward to the quarterback competition we have right now."
In the that QB competition is last years backup quarterback Mark Leal, redshirt sophomore Brenden Motley and Texas Tech transfer Michael Brewer.  Beamer said he was excited to see what comes out of the Texas native.
"The thing in his favor is that he's played in games, that means a lot in the quarterback position.   Coming from Texas Tech you know he can throw the football and I think he can."
Only time will tell who will lead the offense in their opening game against William and Mary August 30th.  As for Hokie fans, they enjoyed their time with Coach Beamer before he enters his 28th year as head coach in Blacksburg.
