St. Albans woman charged with stealing government funds

An elderly St. Albans woman is charged with defrauding the government of more than $80,000 by forging Social Security checks made out to a dead relative.

Regina Ancion, 64, allegedly stole the money over a seven year period ending in November.

If she's convicted, she could face as much as 10 years in prison and up to a $250,000 fine plus being ordered to make restitution.

The Social Security Administration, Office of the Inspector General conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Erik S. Goes handled her prosecution.
