BOSTON, May 7, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Road Scholar, the not-for-profit leader in adult educational travel, has created a revolutionary new immersion learning experience in Paris and Florence for adults who desire the truly special opportunity of living like a local in two of Europe's most beautiful cities. Adults can now experience the thrill of studying abroad through these exciting Road Scholar programs. Called Living and Learning, these six-week learning adventures offer apartment-style living, daily language classes, local hosts and expert-led field trips to iconic sites.

Launching in spring 2015, the new Living and Learning immersion programs will offer a rich, in-depth cultural exchange experience and an opportunity for participants to live abroad for an extended period of time in a supported yet highly flexible and independent way.  Living and Learning will provide participants with the same high-quality educational content for exceptional value available on all 5,500 Road Scholar programs around the world, as well as the opportunity to meet other  intellectually curious adults interested in learning a new language, refreshing language skills and exploring new cultures.

"These new Living and Learning programs rethink the traditional university study abroad experience and mold it to an adult's interests," said Road Scholar president and CEO James Moses. "Road Scholar's new extended immersion learning adventure is the natural evolution of our Founders' vision for Elderhostel when they created the lifelong learning movement almost 40 years ago. Elderhostel and now Road Scholar empower and inspire adults to move beyond their comfort zones, overcome stereotypes, expand their thinking, engage with new friends, share ideas and fulfill lifelong dreams."

Upon arrival, participants are welcomed with a thorough orientation to the city and a review of local customs, are acclimated to their furnished apartment and neighborhood, and then pursue their language study four days a week in language classes at a level best-suited to their skills and proficiency. They will attend weekly educational events with local experts and fellow participants, and enjoy ample free time to explore local cuisine, visit museums and other cultural sites to become fully immersed in the local lifestyle. Throughout the program, a local group leader acts as host to support and assist each participant in pursuing specific interests.

If you're a Francophile but don't know a word of French, or you want to get to know Florence like a Florentine, there's no better way to learn the language than to immerse yourself in the local culture with the support of an organization as trusted and experienced as Road Scholar.
