The McDowell County 911 Center's Addressing and Mapping Department will be going door to door issuing and verifying addresses.

McDowell County 9-1-1 personnel will have proper identification and will be driving a Addressing and Mapping vehicle.

The last time addresses were verified was 2004. 911 Director Teresa VanDyke explains the purpose of updating their system.

"The information that we gather not only gives them a physical address but it also allows our dispatchers to be able to pull up a map and better get directions," VanDyke said.

The process starts this week. Residents are reminded to ask for proper identification if someone asks for your personal information.
