CHARLESTON, WV (AP) -

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin has filled a vacancy left by a Mingo County judge's conviction in a federal corruption investigation.

Tomblin on Tuesday announced the appointment of family court judge Miki Thompson as circuit court judge.

She will replace Michael Thornsbury, who resigned last October. Thornsbury pleaded guilty to a conspiracy charge related to a scheme to protect the late Sheriff Eugene Crum from accusations of illegal drug use. Thornsbury's sentencing is next month.

Two senior status judges had filled in after Thornsbury was indicted last August.

Last week, Thompson won the Democratic nomination for Thornsbury's unexpired term. There were no Republican candidates in the primary.

Also Tuesday, Tomblin appointed Robert Richardson as a circuit judge serving Greenbrier and Pocahontas counties following the retirement of Joseph C. Pomponio Jr.
