A Nicholas County couple has admitted to breaking into a gun shop in Summersville and stealing 14 guns.

U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin said Matthew England, 28, and Lyndsey England, 26, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to possession of stolen firearms,

The charges stem from a September 2011 break-in at Johnson's Sporting Goods on Webster Road. Officers responding to an alarm discovered signs the building had been forcibly entered. The owner subsequently reported 14 weapons had been taken.

Goodwin said several of the were recovered during investigations of other crimes and last year, police were able to trace the stolen guns to the Englands.

The couple had admitted stealing the firearms when questioned by authorities, he said.

The Englads each face up to 10 years in federal prison at sentencing, set for Aug. 27.

Summersville police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives handled the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua Hanks in charge of the prosecution.
