Woodrow Wilson's Mark Daniel named WV baseball coach of the year

Posted: Updated:
Though the Flying Eagles won't be participating in the state tournament this weekend, Woodrow Wilson's baseball coach Mark Daniel will be at Power Park in Charleston.

Daniel who led the Eagles to a 17-9 season this year is accepting the Baseball Coach of the Year award.

The West Virginia High School Federation will be presenting him with the honor Saturday during the state championship games.

Daniel has coached at Woodrow Wilson since 2001 and has brought his team to the state tournament 5 times including the 2013 squad.

"We had a good year last year, this year we fell a little short.  We are looking forward to bouncing back next year, and anytime you get an award it means something is going right.  Our big award is still waiting on us and that's the state tournament, but we have to get sectionals and regionals under control first. But, we feel good about that next year," said Coach Daniel.

Many seniors under Coach Daniel have moved on to play to play at the collegiate level.
