Six months after closing to do a remodel, 1863 Grill has reopened to the public.

The restaurant has been in Elkins for more than 50 years under various owners.

The current owners had a remodel in their plans from the time they purchased it in May 2013.

George Conte Design Consultants of Ligionier, Pennsylvania, worked on the interior design concept.

“It has been great to be a part of breathing some new life into this Elkins landmark,” said restaurant Marketing Manager Meggan Sexton.

A new chef has been added to the team, along with a 12-foot long smoker that can cook up to 1,000 pounds of meat at a time for Kansas City-style barbecue.

Executive Chef Jason Fleck is a California native who recently relocated to Elkins to be closer to his wife’s family. He brings more than 20 years of experience and some of his specialties, such as cinnamon rolls, to the menu.

“This restaurant has a lot of history, and it feels good to be a part of it,” Fleck said. “I can’t wait to bring some of my California flavors to Elkins.”

The restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner service, and soon will feature online ordering for carry-out orders. Private parties, banquets and catering also will be available.

Renovations continue on the second floor of the restaurant to create a banquet and conference space.
