A new smartphone app lets you report a crime with a photo.

It is called the “LiveSafe” app, and it connects anyone in the Morgantown area to the West Virginia University Police Department.

You can report crimes in progress by sending a photo.  It even helps you keep track of your friends if they’re walking alone.  It does not replace WVU’s Alert System, however.

“It’s continuously being used for emergencies only, where as with LiveSafe, if we have tips or information that we want to push out we can actually us it to do that.  That way we’ll keep the emergency system pure so that when people get that message they’ll know to pay attention to it,” said WVU Police Chief Bob Roberts.

You can download the app now on your iPhone or Android device from the app store or on the WVU Police website.
