WEST LIBERTY, WV -

Wheeling health care leader George Couch is the new chairman of the board of governors at West Liberty University. He and other officers were selected at the board’s June 4 meeting and will begin their duties with the start of the new fiscal year on July 1.

Couch, vice president of Wheeling Hospital, replaces Richard Carter as chairman. He will initially serve a one-year term, with the board able to renew and extend his tenure next June. Carter remains on the board.

Couch was first appointed to the WLU board in 2010 by then-Gov. Joe Manchin. He served as board secretary beginning in 2011 and most recently was the board’s vice chairman.

Replacing Couch as vice chairman is Patrick Kelly of Charleston, the CEO of the West Virginia Health Care Association. Wheeling attorney Sandra Chapman is the board’s new secretary. She is a partner in the regional law firm of Casey and Chapman, headquartered in Wheeling.

Also serving on the board are: Beverly Burke, who represents WLU classified staff; Joe Carey of Carey Strategic Communications; Brian E. Joseph of Touchstone Research Laboratory; Evan Newman, student government president; Frank Noble Jr., faculty representative; and B. Ann Thomas of Wheeling.
