Rasheed Marshall helps with Mountaineer Youth Sports football camp

Kids from kindergarten to ninth grade lunged it out at this years Mountaineer Youth Sports football camp.  At camp, it's all about learning.

"We do stations, for instance, offense we'll do running back, quarterback, receiver, agility drills and offensive linemen.  Then we'll take a break and do defensive drills," said Derrick Hypes the president of Mountaineer Youth Sports.

More importantly, they show proper ways to tackle to prevent injuries.

"One of the things we stress is the safety issues with form tackling, to see what you hit and to keep your head up."

An exciting appearance this year for coaches and the players was Rasheed Marshall, a former WVU quarterback who also played in the NFL.

"It's huge for me, I was the little kid running around and attending these camps.  I think this is where it starts and they need someone who's been through the process and knows what it takes," said Marshall.

Between stretching, running and catching, they covered all the basics.

"Fundamental drills but I'm kind of putting my own little twist on it," added Marshall,  "these are things that sets the foundation as you go through."

He also encouraged good work ethic, and the message was well received.

"Be the best you can be, work hard, and it will all pay off," said Logan Stump, one of the campers.

The gridiron is a good place to meet friends and learn the game, and Levi Phalin, another camper, explained what he liked best about camp.

"Playing football with my brothers."

The camp runs through Thursday and by then, they will probably be a little sore, but in the end, it will be worth it.
