Shark Fossil Found in Greenbrier County Cave

Posted: Updated:
A new discovery found in Organ Cave near Ronceverte has scientists excited. The National Park Service confirmed this month that three Shark Fin Spines are embedded in the walls of the cave.

Experts said this is a very rare find because shark bones are soft and dissolve easily. This is one of the only shark fossils to be found in the United States to date.

This is not the first fossil to be found in the cave, but it took almost a decade to identify the fossil.

Unfortunately, the fossil is not available to be seen by the public. Cave staff members want to preserve the Museum quality artifact.
