Lisle, IL (PRWEB) July 01, 2014

Benedictine University today announced its Master of Public Health program, available both on campus and online, is now fully accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH).

The Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) is the only independent agency recognized to accredit graduate schools of public health and graduate public health programs outside schools of public health. Program-specific accreditation provides assurance that the school or program has been evaluated and has met accepted standards established by and with the profession.

Earning a degree from a CEPH accredited program has many advantages for students, including the ability to sit for the Certified in Public Health exam (CPH), eligibility for jobs at some federal agencies such as the CDC, and eligibility for scholarships and grants that are available to students who earn a degree from CEPH accredited programs. At Benedictine University, we are committed to academic excellence, said Georgeen Polyak, Ph.D., Public Health department chair. Earning the CEPH accreditation for our Master of Public Health further validates the excellence of our program and gives graduates a clear advantage in the marketplace.

CEPH Criteria
In order to achieve CEPH accreditation, schools are evaluated on criteria such as the programs curriculum, student learning outcomes, resources, research opportunities and students/faculty interaction among others.

All schools are required by CEPH to conduct a self-evaluation and submit a report detailing how the school meets each criteria. An on-site visit by peer reviewers is then conducted to validate the findings of the self-study. The team interviews school administrators, university officials, faculty, students, alumni and community leaders and inspects the schools facilities, examines documentation corroborating the self-study and prepares a report of its findings. Earning this prestigious accreditation recognizes Benedictine University as offering top academic programs to students, said William J. Carroll, Ph.D., president of Benedictine University. Our Master of Public Health program stands among the best in the country, and were thrilled and honored to be recognized for giving health professionals a solid foundation to achieve great success.
