There is a lot going on at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs these days, in addition to the fifth edition of The Greenbrier Classic, a PGA TOUR FedExCup event underway through July 6.

The New Orleans Saints will open pre-season training camp on a brand new facility at The Greenbrier July 25. That deal with the NFL franchise is helping jumpstart the planned Greenbrier Medical Institute.
Famed physician Dr. James Andrews, known for the ground-breaking "Tommy John surgery," is the centerpiece of the Greenbrier Medical Institute.

"It's all coming to fruition. It's going to be spectacular," he said of the much anticipated medical facility. "It's happening."
Andrews played in The Greenbrier Classic Pro Am event July 2.

"The Saints really kicked off the (Greenbrier Medical Institute) program for us," Andrews said. "They've been working on the facility 24 hours a day, seven days a week on it, trying to get it ready.

"That building that is being completed now is going to have the coaches' offices, meeting rooms, locker rooms, a performance center for weight-lifting. Our physical therapist, Kevin Workman, will have his PT department set up there too."
Construction of the rest of the medical center should be close behind, Andrews predicted.
"As soon as we get (the Saints training camp) finished, we'll begin on our medical complex," Andrews said. "It will have everything in it — diagnostics, sports medicine, weight rooms, plastic surgery — it will be a separate building, kicking off the project.
"Another building for The Greenbrier Clinic will probably come too, as a third phase."
Andrews made no bones about his expectations for the new facility.
"It's going to be a spectacular sports medicine complex, to say the least," he said. "Not only for performance and work out on the fields, but for prevention.

"We're going to have a research education institute there and a biomechanics lab. We're going to get into prevention of injuries for youth sports. We'll also concentrate on golf, obviously. It will be a one-shop place for sports medicine, all the way from getting your biomechanics improved, from your throwing motion, prevention and down to having sports-type surgery."
Having already spent much time in West Virginia during the institute's planning stages, Andrews is more than ready to see his work in place, he said.
"I've got three years devoted to it," Andrews said. "I've been up here numerous times. I'll have some personal touches here and be here for some of it. I'll do some work here."
The location in the Mountain State has additional appeal.
"There's really nothing like this anywhere in this part of the country," he said.
Andrews started his renowned practice in Birmingham, Alabama, where he still has a sports center.
That facility has high profile football programs as clients, from college football powerhouses to NFL teams.
"We take care of Auburn and the University of Alabama there," Andrews said. "We  cover nine colleges on Saturday from there. Over the past three or four years, I've also been at our facility in Pensacola, Florida that is similar to what we're doing at The Greenbrier.
"Football season for me is seven days a week, with the Washington Redskins on Sunday too," he added. "I will be closer to the Redskins, being here (in West Virginia.) I have a big affiliation with the Saints too."
