The Governor's Southern Regional Highway Safety Program is conducting a "STING 19"

It's a string of DUI checkpoints and extra patrols that run all along Route 19 from Raleigh up to Nicholas Counties. It started Monday and extends through Saturday.

Lieutenant Paul Blume explained the importance of DUI check points during the holidays.

"We stress that if you will be around celebration with alcohol, plan ahead. Don't get behind the wheel of a vehicle of an impaired driver. Have a sober driver. If you don't you put yourself at risk and a lot of others at risk. That's why we do the checkpoints, we want a safe holiday," Blume said.

This is the 5th year "STING 19" DUI checkpoints have been conducted specifically for the 4th of July holiday.
