For the first time the United States Softball Team paid a visit to Morgantown. The beautiful weather made Thursday, July 3 the perfect evening for members of the community to come out and enjoy the game of Softball.

Members of the Morgantown Convention and Visitors Bureau were excited to see a packed house for the double header.

"That's what makes this a great event because you always worry when you have a great team come in, will the crowd show up," said Morgantown CVB Sports Manager David Plevich. "I'm so thankful to the community of Morgantown and all the people of the area coming here to support these girls today here at Hawley Field.".

West Virginia University doesn't have a Softball Team of its own. This event provided an opportunity for young girls around the area to learn and express their love for the game.

Team USA held a camp on Wednesday evening for young women in the area to come out and learn more and gain an interest in Softball.

The State Commissioner for ASA Softball in West Virginia, Andy Dooley, was happy to see that the community embraced having Team USA in town.

"Very excited, nice crowd. We really appreciate the people coming out and supporting the game, thank goodness for the good weather and it's really exciting to have this many people come watch it especially when this University doesn't have Softball," said Dooley.

This was the last big game played at Hawley Field. The Mountaineers will move to a brand new facility next season to play their Big 12 games. It was exciting to here chants of "Let's Go USA" fill the stadium.

The excitement surrounding this event has encouraged those in charge to bring even more events like this to Morgantown in the future.

"When you have this opportunity to bring a team like this, this makes me want to go out and get even more events similar to what we have today, to come in and showcase the city of Morgantown," Plevich said.

It took the Morgantown CVB and the Amateur Softball Association two years to plan everything. However, all of that hard work and dedication paid off when about 1,200 people gathered at Hawley Field to support team USA.
