The Tuscaloosa Tourism and Sports Commission (TTSC) selects Jay Kasten to direct the sports division.

Tuscaloosa, AL (PRWEB) July 08, 2014

The Tuscaloosa Tourism and Sports Commission (TTSC) announced the selection of Jay Kasten as the new Director of Sports. On July 16th, he will step into his new role, overseeing and recruiting sport events to bring people to Tuscaloosa and continue to promote the city. Kasten is familiar with the Tuscaloosa area as most recently he was the Senior Operations Director for the Bruno Event Team, managing the influx of 130,000 people into Tuscaloosa for the University of Alabamas football gamedays.

We are beyond thrilled to have Jay join our team, Simpson said. TTSC continues to grow and move forward. Jay will be an excellent addition with his experience in multi-million dollar, national events. His experience and expertise raises the bar for our organization.

With over 7 years of experience in the sports industry, Kasten has lead in many different roles including event management, marketing and sales. Kasten cut his teeth in the sports industry in the ticket sales department of the St. Louis Cardinal. In 2008, Kasten begun working for the Bruno Event Team where he worked with a wide variety of national sport governing bodies including the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Southeastern Conference (SEC), Professional Golf Association Tour (PGA), United States Golf Association (USGA), United States Tennis Association (USTA), Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour (LPGA), Indy Racing League (IRL), American Motorcyclist Association (AMA), and CrossFit.

I'm honored to have been granted this opportunity. The people of Tuscaloosa have a passion for their community and their sports, and I truly couldn't ask for better environment. I look forward to serving and being a part of the progress and future of this great city, Kasten explained.

As a member of the Zoom Motorsports team, Kasten was a key member of the team that recruited the Indy Racing League to Birmingham to host the annual Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama. Kasten was also influential in the execution of multiple USGA, LPGA, and PGA Champions Tour golf tournaments. In a partnership with the PGA Champions Tour, Kasten controlled the operations, marketing and media for the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic that hosted several of the PGA Tours greatest golfers including Fred Couples, Nick Faldo and Jerry Pate. He also was instrumental in the execution of the 2009 United States vs. Switzerland First Round Davis Cup Tie at the BJCC in Birmingham, which sold out in less than one hour. Further, Kasten has been involved in several other high profile events in Alabama including the Regions Charity Classic and Regions Tradition (formerly the Brunos Memorial Classic), AHSSA Super 6, NCAA College Cup and the SEC Baseball Tournament.

He holds two degrees, one from the University of Kansas a B.S. in Sports Management, and one from the University of Alabama in Birmingham a Masters of Business Administration. Kasten married his wife, Kammie Kasten last June.
