You may see a lot of spiraling wind doodles once the Hampshire County Special Services Center wood shop gets up and running.

Wind doodles are wooden “creations” that spiral into motion when the wind blows. The Hampshire County Special Services Center doodles are similar to a spiraling staircase with specifically designed tops.

“They kind of spin in the wind,” said Kevin Sanders, executive director of HCSSC.

The center recently purchased a wood shop formerly located in Bellington.

“We are starting to look at building crafts,” Sanders said. “The wind doodles are one of the many things we plan to do with wood.”

HCSSC is the largest facility in the region that has a sole purpose of offering jobs, work skills and employment opportunities to people with intellectual disabilities.

HCSSC recently moved from its location as the first building on the left at the Romney Business Park to its new 30,000-square-foot building, the former Hampshire Manufacturing building, the second one on the left.
