As Xarelto Lawsuit Claims Are Filed in U.S. Courts on Behalf of Patients Who Allegedly Suffered Episodes of Uncontrollable Internal Bleeding Due to the High Blood Pressure Medication Wright & Schulte Continues To Investigate Xarelto Side-Effects
Columbus, OH (PRWEB) July 13, 2014
A Xarelto lawsuit webpage has been launched by Wright & Schulte LLC to provide consumers with the most current information regarding serious internal bleeding that can sometimes accompany use of the blood-thinning medication, as well as the growing number of Xarelto bleeding lawsuits pending in courts around the country. The law firm is now offering free legal evaluations to anyone who may have suffered from life-threatening internal bleeding and related complications while using Xarelto, including:
Xarelto is a blood thinner that is used for a number of indications, including the prevention of blood clots related to atrial fibrillation, and the treatment of dangerous blood clots called deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. It is also given to patients who have just had hip or knee replacement surgery to reduce the risk of blood clots in the legs and lungs. Xarelto was approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) in 2011, and is manufactured by Bayer HealthCare. Janssen Pharmaceutical, a division of Johnson & Johnson, markets Xarelto in the U.S.

All blood thinners, including Xarelto, can cause patients to suffer internal hemorrhaging. However, there currently exists no antidote to reverse Xarelto bleeding. Since its approval, the drug has been the subject of several FDA safety alerts. In August 2013, a boxed warning was added to the Xarelto label advising that premature discontinuation of the drug increases the risk of thrombotic events. The FDA also warned that epidural or spinal hematomas with the potential to cause long-term or permanent paralysis could occur in Xarelto patients who receive anesthesia or undergo spinal puncture.

According to a report published by Reuters last month, at least 10 Xarelto lawsuit claims have been filed in U.S. courts on behalf of patients who may have been injured by the blood thinner. Most recently, a Florida woman filed a wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of her husband, who allegedly died due to uncontrollable bleeding caused by Xarelto. Among other things, the complaint, which was filed on June 23, 2014 in U.S. District Court, Southern District of Florida, claims that the manufacturers of Xarelto failed to warn that there was no reversal agent for Xarelto bleeding. The lawsuit further alleges that Xarelto is unreasonably dangerous and defective, and points out that safer alternatives exist, such as warfarin, which have reversal agents for internal bleeding.
