Elder Care Helper announces the release of The Elder Care Helper Guide: Making Sense of Long-Term Care, a book that helps families make informed choices about the type and quality of care for their elderly loved ones.

The book is intended to help others avoid what I went through when my mother had a stroke, says Susan Cherco, author and founder of Elder Care Sources, LLC. Its difficult to make good decisions about elder care in a crisis, and its even more difficult to find easy-to-use, objective and reliable guidance about available choices to make the right decisions.

The Elder Care Helper Guide allows readers to self-discover the type of long-term care best suited to meet their needs or the needs of loved ones that also fits preferences and pocketbooks. The book details:

Critical information about what long-term care isand is not, who pays for it, types of care, characteristics of a good candidate for each care option, long-term care costs and financial considerations;

Easy-to-follow guidance to self-determine the type of care that makes the most sense for you or your loved one, and recognize the best practices that home care agencies, assisted living residences, nursing homes and continuing care retirement communities should offer those they serve; and,

Handy checklists to rank and select the appropriate care provider.

The book distills a lot of lessons learned from my experience with my mother, as well as my professional work in the elder care community, Cherco says. I wanted to wring out the complexity and confusion around elderly care that often leads to less-than-ideal decisions.

Early reviews of The Elder Care Helper Guide are positive:

Cherco has done a masterful job of compiling indispensable details in a guide that is easy to read and understand. Caregivers and elder consumers alike should be able to use this guide as a dependable source of information.User-oriented and pertinent; highly valuable to anyone looking to learn more about long-term care. Kirkus Indie Review

In my practice, I have worked with many people facing difficult care-giving decisions. I highly recommend this smart, easy to use guide as a resource for anyone attempting to navigate the long-term care terrain. Susan Solovy, J.D., Psy.D.

The Elder Care Helper Guide: Making Sense of Long-Term Care is available on Amazon and Elder Care Helper, a complementary resource-driven website that seeks to create more transparency in the long-term care marketplace. More specifically, it helps consumers navigate the often-confusing landscape with education, care assessment tools, guidance and community-focused opportunities.
