CHARLESTON -

Catherine C. Eckley has been selected as director of alumni relations and the annual fund for the University of Charleston.

Eckley will be responsible for building relationships with alumni of the University of Charleston and its predecessor, Morris Harvey College. She will continue efforts to fully include in the UC alumni family, alumni from Beckley College and Mountain State University.

She also will cultivate volunteer leaders, develop and implement communications programs and work with other university departments to plan and implement additional programs to create new and solidify current alumni relationships.

As annual fund director, Eckley has responsibility for the organization, planning and management of the university’s program to seek annual gifts, a vital source of funding for UC to support its mission.

Eckley is a graduate of Rhodes College and the West Virginia University College of Law. She also holds a specialized master’s degree from the University of Alabama School of Law.

She has worked with Legal Aid of West Virginia for the past five years, where she has managed a pro-bono referral project, co-established the low-income taxpayer clinic, and provided legal services and advice to clients on various legal issues.

Eckley has worked in the West Virginia University College of Law Development and Alumni Relations Office, as well as in Rhodes College’s development office. She has been involved in several philanthropic endeavors, including the establishment of a Beckley division of Give Kids a Smile program. She is vice-chairwoman of Read Aloud West Virginia, and also serves on the board of directors of Friends of the Clay Center.

Eckley started at the University of Charleston July 7.
