Brandin Cooks shines and Jimmy Graham dunks in Saints scrimmage

Posted: Updated:
Drew Brees walked the sidelines for the scrimmage with what only appeared to be only a temporary set back.

"He strained his left oblique, and so we'll take it day by day," said Saints head coach Sean Payton, "but we didn't want to put him out there the day after, so that's going to require just a little rest."

The talk of camp has been about Rookie wide receiver Brandin Cooks out of Oregon State, who was even more impressive in Saturday's match-up.  He had many good plays including one for a touchdown.

"He's 0 to 60 real fast, and that's why we took him I guess in the first round pick," linebacker David Hawthorne said about Cooks.

Another linebacker, Curtis Lofton, added, "can't say enough about that speed, I always say it looks like he's been shot out of a rocket the second he has the ball in his hands, and I'm just happy to have him as my teammate."

NFL officials were on hand to regulate the game and enforce the new rules of the league this year, which the players are still getting used to.

"A rule sounds good on paper but when you are out there you're competing at the highest level sometimes it's hard to adjust, your head tilt and little things,"  Hawthorne said.

One of those new rules is that it's now a penalty to use the goal post as a prop, and though he is aware of this new rule, for the sake of scrimmage, Jimmy Graham did it anyways.

Fans from West Virginia and the rest of the "Who Dat" nation applauded the black and gold as they wrapped up their first scrimmage in White Sulphur Springs.
